It’s Summer in NYC. It’s hot, muggy, and filled with tourists. You’ve worked hard all Spring – you deserve a Summer Escape.

We’re rounding up all the best Summer Escapes from NYC, so check back each week for new inspiration.

First up… Montauk! We love Montauk because it’s like the Hamptons… only with less crowds and a little more low key. It’s got beautiful accessible beaches, and really isn’t thaaatt much further than the Hamptons.

Here is our guide to having the perfect Summer Escape weekend out in Montauk. Be sure to pack your Summer Essentials!

Of course the first thing on our mind when we visit somewhere is food + drink. In Montauk, there is definitely no shortage of that. Check out our top picks for delicious grub and lively spirits.

Ruschmeyer’s – Ruschmeyer’s is kind of like summer camp for adults. It’s an awesome place to chill out, have a drink, grab a bite to eat, and experience everything great about Summer. Plus, they’re also a hotel so you can stay right there if you’re lucky!

The Crow’s Nest – You’re sure to be in good company at the Crow’s Nest – like Leo DiCaprio level good company… It’s super funky-chic aesthetic is all kinds of fun, and their food is to die for. *Pro tip – get there early as they don’t take reservations.

Joni’s – Joni’s is the perfect spot for a sandwich or snack on the beach. Grab a yummy wrap like “the grateful veg!” and sit out on the patio for an amazing view of the Montauk Lighthouse. Or pack your lunch for a picnic on the beach – just a short walk away!

Naturally Good Foods and Café – If you’re looking for something healthy and organic, check out Naturally Good Food. It’s a health food store with a yummy café and even a vegan bakery!

Sweet’Tauk Lemonade – Delicious fresh-squeezed lemonade with half the sugar? Count us in! Stop by their shop to try some of their tasty drink in four amazing flavors, including Strawberry Mint – our fav!

With miles of beach, killer waves, beautiful lakes, and lots of boats, there is virtually no reason to stay inside on a trip to Montauk. We love to try new activities and enjoy some old favs while we’re out east.

Stand Up Yoga (SUP) – If you’re the adventurous (and super coordinated) type, Stand Up Yoga is definitely for you. This is a yoga class taught on Paddle Boards in the middle of the water. We’re not sure how centered we would be, but we’re sure it’s a great core workout.

Surf Lessons – Montauk is known as a good surf spot, so be sure to catch some waves while you’re there. The waves can get a bit intense though, so be sure to work with your instructor to find a good time for easier waves.

Ditch Plains – If you’re going to Montauk, chances are you’re planning to spend some time on the beach. Our top pick is Ditch Plains. You get all the beauty of a pristine beach plus lifeguards, surfers to watch, beautiful bluffs, and a great hike can take you straight to our next site, Montauk Lighthouse.

Montauk Point Lighthouse – Visit the eastern-most tip of Long Island at the historic Montauk Lighthouse. Take in some spectacular views, and get some exercise climbing up all those stairs.

Mon Tiki Sunset Cruise – You’re in for an awesome boating adventure on the Mon Tiki Catamaran. Friday and Saturday nights feature adults only cruises that are sure to be memorable.

From vineyards to art galleries to shops and restaurants, the Hamptons offer countless amazing things to do. We’re sticking mostly to Montauk because who really wants to battle that Hamptons traffic. Here are some of our fav spots out east.

Wölffer Estates Vineyard – We’ve raved about this vineyard for their delicious wine and also their amazing wine tour. While you’re in Montauk, stop at Wölffer. You won’t regret it.

Pollock Krasner House – Art buffs rejoice! You can take in some very legit art history by visiting the amazing cottage and studio where Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner once lived and worked.

Montauk Brewing Company – Enjoy some sunshine and some delicious local beer at the Montauk Brewing Company Tasting Room. Bring some food and chill out with some unique new brews only offered at the tasting room.

Knockout Beauty – The Hamptons is a new destination for natural beauty. While you’re there, check out the popular new pop up shop for some new natural beauty finds or to stock up on anything you might have left at home.

Probably the most important thing when planning your trip to Montauk is finding the perfect place to stay. Plan ahead because reservations go quick!

Surf Lodge – Surf Lodge is a destination. This fun bohemian spot is the perfect place to relax and enjoy some wellness and untouched coastline. They have a restaurant with organic food, offer AKT in Motion classes all Summer, and popular put on great summer concerts. A little birdie also told us you might just find awesome caps from SHHHOWERCAP in your room. Plus – there’s shuttles to and from the beach!

Gurney’s Inn and Seaside Resort – For a true Montauk experience, check out Gurney’s. If you’re lucky you’ll get into one of their gorgeous newly renovated rooms, but either way you’ll be glad you stayed there. It’s the ultimate in beach resorts, offering a spa, seawater restorative pool, fitness classes on the deck, a great beachside bar, multiple restaurants, and more.

Topping Rose House – A bit down the road in Bridgehampton is the super chic Topping Rose House. If you’re looking for luxury, this is where you go. They’ve got a fine dining farm-to-table restaurant, spa, fitness center, pool, and all kinds of great activities. How a historic home can look so modern and chic we don’t know… but we love it!

Airbnb – If you’re going with friends or looking for a real beach house experience, check out some of the top Montauk rentals on Airbnb. There are some great options perfect for a weekend away.
