Back from a long weekend of eating and drinking? Was it amazing and oh-so-delicious? We hope the answer to both of those questions = yes. But if you’re anything like us, you want to get back to business and prepare our bodies and minds for all of the holiday goodness and cheer that is still to come.
So…we’ve rounded up some healthy and detoxifying snack options that will boost your metabolism and keep you on track while you’re getting back on track this December / holiday season.
Asparagus: Cooking up this veggie is a delicious and healthy snack, not just because it detoxifies the liver, but also because it helps your body flush out all the impurities. Grilled, steamed or raw will help reduce bloating in your belly too!
Apples: This fruit is filling, satisfying and it can help suppress unhealthy cravings. If a sneaky sugar craving creeps up when you’re detoxing, grab an apple! Green apples are especially good for decreasing appetite. You know what they say about an apple a day…
Homemade Trail Mix: A lot of trail mixes have sugary sweets like candy or chocolate included in the mix, making them a less healthy option. BUT there’s always an exception to the rule – a homemade option could be just the kind healthy snack that keeps your body energized. We recommend mixing pistachios, almonds, dried cranberries, and hemp seeds which are loaded with omega-3 fatty acids, protein, zinc, iron and potassium, and calcium. You can also add dried goji berries, which are powerful antioxidants that are rich in Vitamin A.
Matcha Green Tea: Not only is this a great caffeine substitute that is much healthier for your body, but it also has a special compound in it that boosts up your metabolism and helps your liver to eliminate toxins.
Watermelon: Health experts claim that watermelon helps your liver and kidneys flush out impurities. Watermelon tea can do the trick too!
Avocados: Aside from lowering cholesterol, avocados contain a nutrient called glutathione, which blocks at least 30 different carcinogens while helping the liver detoxify synthetic chemicals, you can even add some of this green goodness to your smoothies or salads! Or…you can eat our avocado toast. Or do all of the above =)
Lemon Water: Hydrates and energizes you. Stimulates your liver. Aids detoxification and maximizes enzyme function. Basically…it’s amazing for you. We recommend drinking a big glass of lemon water (hot or cold) each morning before you wake up and every night before you hit the hay.
Grapefruit: Grapefruit helps to curb hunger, but it doesn’t stop there! This citrus fruit boosts your metabolism and packs in a ton of vitamin C – it’s good for fighting off colds and giving your skin that healthy glow! And it’s citrus season so your produce should be just about perfecto.
Well there you have it folks…these are some healthy, light options that will make you feel like a million bucks.
